!Help for !MagPi-Mo'
MagPi-Mo' combines three utilities concerned with the
mouse and pointer into a single 24K application (or 32K
for pre-RiscPC machines) on the Iconbar. An extra 32K
is grabbed whenever the magnifier is displayed but this
is released as soon as the magnifier widow is closed.
Magnifier (Mag)
=================
Click SELECT on the Iconbar icon to bring up the Mag
window. Clicking MENU over the Mag window will allow
you to alter the settings.
Note that the combination of colour and logic provides
maximum flexibility in finding cross-hairs that show up
well on almost any image or do not show at all.
The window can be made adjustable for resizing and then
fixed to minimise the window furniture.
New settings can be saved or old settings restored.
Pointer Info (Pi-)
====================
Click ADJUST on the Iconbar icon to bring up the Pi-
window. Clicking MENU over the Pi- window will allow
you to set the information that will be displayed. It
also allows you to save the settings or restore
previously saved settings.
The Icon flags are shown in an abbreviated form where
an upper case letter indicates that the flag is set, a
lower case letter shows that it is unset or clear.
Refer to the Programmer's Reference Manual for a
description of the flags.
Mouse Setter (Mo')
====================
The Mouse setting window, Mo', is accessed only through
the menu. You can set the Mouse Step anywhere between
1 and 8 OS-units (i.e. usually 1/2 to 4 pixels). This
setting is read from the current CMOS RAM setting. Any
change you make is saved back to CMOS RAM and will
remain in effect even if MagPi-Mo' is quit.
Mo' also allows you to set a toggle action for when
the right 'Alt' key ('Alt Gr') is pressed. These
limit the mouse movement in several ways that may be
useful when working on e.g. graphics.
------------------------------------------------------
A note on timing
================
When the magnifier and pointer info widows are both
closed -- and the Alt-toggle mouse action is Off --,
MagPi-Mo' masks out null polls and so is almost
transparent (the fact that it is loaded does take up
a minimal amount of the Wimp's processing time).
When any or all of the actions are in operation, a
null poll is returned every 5 centiseconds. Drawing
to the magnifier window or writing to the pointer
information window also takes a considerable amount
of time. This will have a noticable effect on non-
StrongARM machines.
Combining the three functions into a single
application does reduce the timing overheads that
would be experienced with separate applications.
------------------------------------------------------
!MagPi-Mo' is written on a StrongARM RiscPC. It ought
to work on older systems (RISC OS 3.1 and above). If
you do encounter any problems at all, please contact
me, giving as much information as you can, so that I
can improve the usefulness of the program.
Please read the conditions in the file 'Licence'.
